Job Overview:
Reporting to Jhpiego Tanzania Communication and Stakeholder Engagement Manager, and working in collaboration with Jhpiego Tanzania communication team and Jhpiego's Global Engagement & Communications Office {GECO}, technical/programmatic teams, administrative staff, the Communication Officer will in consultation with Jhpiego senior management team to oversee internal and external efforts to raise the profile and visibility of Jhpiego and its programs in Tanzania and globally. This will be done by developing a Communication strategy for Jhpiego Tanzania and/or its programs and managing its implementation, development of multi-media, user-friendly, easy to understand and accessible communication products from Jhpiego supported activities. The Communication Officer will also work on stakeholder engagement, knowledge management and building basic communications skills {writing, photography and events management} among staff.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Support the development and implementation of Jhpiego Tanzania and program specific communication strategies;
• Support the development and implementation of Jhpiego Tanzania knowledge management and stakeholder engagement strategies;
• Ensure high quality Jhpiego country office and programs communication {including but not limited to brochures, factsheets, info - graphics newsletter, presentations, posters, etc.} and multi-media materials are available to support
• Jhpiego Tanzania and external communication efforts;
• Support editing and formatting of Jhpiego non-peer reviewed publications and visibility materials;
• Work closely with the Jhpiego Global Engagement and Communications Office {GECO} at Headquarters to develop accurate, creative stories and communications products for a variety of media, used by partners and inclusion in Jhpiego external communications outlets such as corporate newsletter, social media and website;
• Ensure proper branding and marking of Jhpiego-Ied programs, materials and activities;
• Work with Jhpiego senior management team to insure that all Jhpiego staff are familiar with Jhpiego communications policies and processes, including building their capacity documentation of success stories and photography;
• Serve as focal point for the collection of success stories, photographs, video, audio {including liaising with professional Photographers videographers} from project activities to be used for communication and visibility materials;
• Strengthen Jhpiego's communication links and relations with key partners, including national and district level government partners, other non-governmental organizations, donor agencies, media, key private sector partners and other stakeholders in public health;
• Support the planning and execution of all Jhpiego media and public events and stakeholder engagement while ensuring that Jhpiego branding values and those of donors are respected and observed;
• Required Skills and Qualifications:
• University graduate with at least five years' experience in corporate communications, joumalism, marketing, public relations, or public health work;
• Outstanding command of English and Swahili languages, both written and spoken
• Proven writing {non-technical}, editing and photography skills;
• Ability to develop communication plans to synchronize with organizational goals;
• Understanding of conventional and new communications channels, including' electronic, print, and social media;
• Ability to develop and maintain relationships with audiences important to Jhpiego, including the media, government ministries, non-governmental organizations, donors and prospective donors;
• Ability to represent the organization effectively to external government ministries, non-governmental organizations and other collaborating agencies;
• Strong computer, photography, organizational, analytical and assessment skills;
• Ability to meet deadlines under extreme pressure;
• Experience and ability to travel frequently to the field.
