GRADER OPERATOR
The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) saves wildlife and wild places worldwide through science, conservation action, education and inspiring people to value nature.
WCS is an equal opportunity employer and seeks a Grader Operator for working under the coordination of the Wildlife Conservation Society Ruaha-Katavi Landscape Program, Iringa, Tanzania.
Background:
The Ruaha-Katavi Landscape Program works with a variety of government, non-government and community partners to implement a wide range of activities aimed at strengthening the protection and improved management of threatened species, habitats and ecosystem services.
Description of the position:
• Grader Operator will report to the Ruaha-Katavi Landscape Operations Manager.
• Grader operation related to the maintenance and rehabilitate of remote, protected area roads, almost entirely in various Game Reserves;
• Operator will be employed roughly 9 months per year;
• Operator will be responsible for day to day grader maintenance, ensuring service schedules are respected and oversight of needed repairs;
• Operator will be responsible for completing daily work logs and ensuring vehicle tracking;
• Position likely to be based in Lupatingatinga (Chunya District) with frequent travels between Rungwa and Lukwati/Piti Game Reserves;
Applicant attributes:
• Tanzanian National;
• Valid driving license and all required certification for operating a grader;
• At least 3 – 5 years of experience operating a grader in protected areas environment (parks, game reserves or similar);
• Proven experience in working independently for long periods with minimum supervision;
• Candidate must demonstrate highest level of integrity and responsibility;
• Proven experience in basic grader maintenance;
• A clear demonstrated understanding of grader operation safety considerations;
• Good communication skills, fluent in spoken and written Swahili and at least basic English;
• Basic navigation and map reading skills and willingness to use other tracking devices;
• Interest in wildlife and conservation a bonus.
Remuneration:
A competitive remuneration package will be offered to the successful candidate.
